Hello World, you're beautiful.
A TALE OF TWO TREES
(Inspired by my backyard)
This is a tale of two trees
Both given a good place
To stretch and to grow
To make the most of their space.
And the first reached down, past the stone and tangled weeds,
To grab hold of solid earth -
To gain the strength it would need.
It's journey was slow, but consistent and good.
It never changed course
It believed that it could.
And today it has beauty
Tremendous height and rich color,
It is admired by all who see
And they say to each other -
Let's US be like that tree, solid and true!
We can dig down our roots - we can lift higher too!
But the second tree, it bends and droops
No glory it has to share,
With no effort made since the time it was young,
It's trembling branches are bare.
To the passing eye, it hardly causes a stir
Not much of a scene it creates,
Except for one who can't look away,
And one who's heart it breaks.
The keeper of the trees
Can only hang on, and hope that maybe there's time.
Just maybe a small change will yet alter its course,
And this timid young tree will climb.
For she remembers still, and everyday recalls
The moment they were held in her arms.
Lowering to her knees she had cradled the roots,
And placed them both under the stars.
Both such great potential,
Both so much to reach,
There was nothing else she could give or could teach.
It had been in their efforts that day by day,
They had both chosen paths
They had made their own way.
Us like these trees, we are noble and bright
And we have our own fight to make.
We must choose everyday to not alter course, and be careful of each step we take.
Just remember one day your roots will be strong,
And storms will not cause you to quake.
You will keep your eyes lifted, you will not hide your face.
And not a force on this earth could break.
For like the first tree, you have known from the start
That strength and courage are rare.
And to reach that noble height, you have risked being true,
And showed the world you weren't afraid to care.
What's better than some West Coast sun, smooth golden sand, and a little salt spray in the air. Just breathe.
